Specialty Bands (3-4 piece)

Job Description

Our Specialty Bands provide a wide variety of music as well as accompany high profile events, and bring a high-level commercial entertainment product onboard. Specialty Band genres/instrumentations vary, but typically have a regional focus for our seasonal itineraries where we hire musicians across an array of genres such as Caribbean, Irish, Latin, Mariachi, and many others. Bands have a repertoire of 300+ songs, with content dependent on the group and generally including: American song book standards, ballroom dancing styles (Waltz, Rhumba, Cha-Cha, Salsa, etc.) while remaining contemporary and relevant, pop music from 1940s to present, and Adult Contemporary favorites. Bands include a minimum of two members capable of lead vocals, and make frequent use of the other vocalist(s) for harmonies. Bands are run by their own Band Leader who acts as primary contact and manages band membership, repertoire, and group direction.

Typical berthing arrangements will place each band member with another same-gender-on-passport band member, and/or as a linked couple, or with another member of the music team with the same gender on their passport. When this cannot be arranged, band members are expected to room together, or to understand that this may be required for limited periods of time when separate berthing is not immediately available.

Groups are expected to:

  • Perform on their instrument as scheduled by the Music Manager not more than 35 hours in a week, averaged not more than 5 hours per day, with performance schedules of 2-4 sets typical;
  • Dress professionally in business casual attire or formal wear as appropriate, with heavy reliance on themed attire for specialty sets and a consistent and coordinated "look" for the band at all times;
  • Join into a shared cabin with one other teammate;
  • Attend regular trainings and meetings as part of life onboard;
  • Take part in regular safety exercises and In-Port-Manning duties;
  • Enthusiastically engage with guests and teammates as part of live performances, on- and off-stage; and
  • Rehearse with other musicians for special performances and/or complete personal practice as-needed.

Benefits of performing with Princess Cruises include:

  • Flexible contract scheduling above 14 weeks;
  • Variety of itineraries and locations;
  • Negotiable starting salaries based on qualifications;
  • Eligibility for discounted cruise fares after one year of service;
  • Partial reimbursements on Seafarer's Medical Fitness Certificate costs;
  • Reimbursements on certain baggage/travel costs;
  • Company-provided travel to and from the assigned vessel (subject to visa and legal considerations, through select major airports);
  • Company-provided accommodations when traveling to the assigned vessel (subject to scheduling needs); and
  • Access to certain guest areas, facilities, and amenities, on an as-available basis (subject to Captain's Standing Orders and any health guidance in effect).

Video auditions / showreels are required -- YouTube links are the preferred method. Interviews / auditions are planned and scheduled on a case-by-case basis and focus on:

  • Repertoire;
  • Stage Presence; and
  • English proficiency.
